Sofia Dias e Vitor Roriz

SyNOPSIS
Satellites is a dance piece for four performers by Sofia Dias & Vítor Roriz, in which they continue their research into the word as a malleable material; the body, oscillating between subject and object; scenography as a mobile element; and voice and song as something that pours out from the body. Through the use of repetition, transformation, and simultaneity, they generate material noted for its keen precision and openness to deviance.

During the creation of “Out of any present” (2012), we felt the need to include another person on stage. A vanishing point that could break the regularity of the duet; a peripheral presence, oscillating between observation, occasional interference in the action of the other performers, and the functional activation of the scenography. In a specific moment in the piece we refer to this performer – Filipe Pereira – as a ‘satellite’. That is the origin of the title of our project for 2015, motivated in part by our desire to continue investigating this kind of presence.

Satellites is an image for that which is peripheral, for movement from and in the periphery. Movement in relation to a centre that is never named and whose position is not determined. Not that the centre is any way more important than the periphery – what matters is the possibility that they reciprocally influence each other. We imagine the movement at the periphery as a narrative about the centre: a centre of imprecise contours, a nebula from which the narrative discerns and distorts shapes.
