A workshop with Dorothée Munyaneza and one of the performers from umuko, the opening performance of this year’s Alkantara Festival.
In this creative workshop centred around joy as a form of resistance, I want us to allow the voice, the body to come into conversation with one another.
I want us to focus on the gesture in the shifting body. The body that shakes violence off and out through the roof. I see bodies marching, rising, propelled into joy.
I hear songs, I hear music, I hear languages, reminding us that we are worthy, alive, and connected.
This workshop is an invitation into a multidisciplinary practice. I would like there to be people of different age groups. They can be dancers, musicians, poets, singers, actors with a primary emphasis on the Afro diaspora community. Also most welcome are people from the LQBTQIA+ communities. This workshop is a gathering. This workshop is a safe place to honour individual and collective memories.

This workshop is conducted in English and Portuguese. To sign up, simply fill out the form through the link: registration form
