At Espaço Alkantara, Gaya de Medeiros begins working on a new project, Baque — Contorno do Gosto. On 31 July, we open the doors of the studio for a public sharing of the process.
In Baque — Contorno do Gosto, a collective of trans bodies creates a ritual of affects and fables, a utopia where gender, race, and other differentiating markers no longer exist. The collective proposes to (re)narrate the world and the relationships that connect them with existence, the things that thrill them in life and those that quash those thrills. This is a concert-performance that seeks to answer the question: if my body didn’t always arrive before me, what would I talk about?

Gaya de Medeiros is a trans woman, dancer, drag queen, choreographer, producer, and director. She is trained in animation, ballet, contemporary dance, and dramaturgy. She danced with Companhia de Dança do Palácio das Artes for nine years. Gaya has created three solos (É o amor outra vez, Proteína Desnaturada and After Party) and was a cofounder and producer of Rede Sola de dança. She has choreographed for Drag Taste Lisbon (2019-2021). In Portugal, she has worked with Gustavo Ciríaco and Tiago Cadete, among others. In 2021 she founded BRABA, a platform that aims...
