Summer Hours

What and when

Due to the cancellation of construction work planned for the summer, Espaço Alkantara will be open in August and September for rehearsals. We are currently accepting applications from artists preparing new work for the 20-21 season, for the following periods:

– August 3-16
– August 17-30
– August 31 to September 13.​​​​​​​​​​​​​

What we offer

Artistic teams will have exclusive access to the studio at Espaço Alkantara and shared use of adjacent facilities (w/c and patio). More information about Espaço Alkantara, as well as a list of available technical equipment, can be found at here

What we expect

Artistic teams will be invited for an outdoor conversation with the Alkantara team about the work they are developing. We also request artists provide some digital content related to their time at Espaço Alkantara that can be shared publicly (photographs, research material, suggested reading/watching/listening, etc.).

Who can apply

We invite applications from individual artists or collectives living in Portugal. For this call, we will be giving particular attention to proposals from artists who have not participated in our residency programme before and who have confirmed presentation dates in the 2020-21 season.

We are most interested in projects grounded in experimental or research-based practices in the performing arts — generally, theatre, dance, or performance. We welcome proposals that approach or involve other practices or disciplines.

Applications from amateur or student groups will not be accepted.

Due to current public health recommendations, rehearsals at Espaço Alkantara are limited to six participants.

How to aplly

Completed forms must be submitted online by June 7.

All applicants will be informed of the final selection via e-mail by June 17.

Selections will be made by the Alkantara team and are final.
